Animal Rehabilitators of the Carolinas is composed of independently licensed wildlife rehabilitators in Charlotte and the surrounding counties.  Our mission is to rescue and rehabilitate orphaned and injured wildlife.

New members are trained to become licensed wildlife rehabilitators in compliance with state licensing requirements.  ARC provides its members ongoing educational opportunities, basic rehab supplies, and a network of seasoned rehabilitators to provide support in wildlife care.  Members are expected to provide 8 hours of monthly hotline coverage as well as maintain state licensing requirements and annual ARC membership dues.

ARC Membership Requirements:

    • Must be 18 years or older
    • Live within a 50 mile radius of Charlotte, NC
    • Be able to rehabilitate wildlife in your home
    • Have a dedicated separate room or area for rehabbing
    • Access to Reliable Phone & Internet Services
    • Complete ARC’s New Member training course
    • Commit to 8 hours of hotline coverage per month

ARC’s New Member class teaches wildlife rehabilitation basics for small mammals.  A $100 enrollment fee is charged to cover the class, manual, basic supplies and first year membership dues.  Class topics include determining if an animal is in need of assistance, basic care of injured and orphaned wildlife, administering medication, nutrition, proper hygiene and diseases of the more common species: grey squirrels, flying squirrels, opossums, chipmunks, and cottontail rabbits.

Become a Hotline Volunteer

Hotline Volunteers monitor ARC’s wildlife hotline and act as a liaison between our wildlife rehabilitators and the general public.  During a shift, volunteers provide callers with basic information regarding emergency care, advice on reuniting, and assisting with many other wildlife issues. If an animal requires rehabilitation, volunteers also assist in locating a wildlife rehabilitator for the caller.  Hotline shifts are available Monday-Sunday.  Shifts run from 9am-1pm, 1pm-5pm, and 5pm-9pm.

No prior experience or knowledge is required for this position.  New hotline volunteers must complete an online training course and work closely with ARC members to learn how to properly handle hotline calls.

Volunteer Requirements:

    • Must be 18 years or older
    • Access to Reliable Phone & Internet Services
    • Complete Online Training Course
    • Minimum 6 Month Volunteer Commitment
    • Commit to hotline coverage for a minimum of two (2) four-hour shifts per month
